Chapter 13
When Sheng Jing returned home, it was already late at night. The small courtyard was silent, but the lights were on.
He paused at the door for a moment, took a deep breath, and then pushed the door open. Compared to the insurmountable research at the institute, he always felt that dealing with Tong Yu was the greater challenge.
"Sir, you're back." The household robot, Little Fatty, quickly slid over, using its claw-like mechanical arms to help Sheng Jing with his slippers.
Sheng Jing looked at the fluffy slippers and frowned. "These aren't my slippers."
"The other owner bought them for you. They're a matching pair with the ones he's wearing now," Little Fatty explained.
Sheng Jing stared at the slippers for a while but eventually put them on. Tong Yu had changed a lot this past week, and he didn't want to start an argument over slippers as soon as he got home.
Once inside, Sheng Jing immediately noticed the changes in the house, the most prominent being the cream-colored curtains that nearly covered an entire wall.
The glass on the first floor had an automatic light-adjusting function, something Tong Yu had specifically installed when they got married, claiming that without curtains, the living room would appear more spacious and bright.
Had he suddenly changed his mind?
It wasn't just the curtains; there were also many new green plants around the house. On the coffee table, the dining table, and even in the corners of the room, there were plants of various sizes. Although these were just small additions and the main layout hadn't changed, somehow the entire house felt different.
"Sir, have you had dinner?" Little Fatty asked considerately.
"No, bring me something to eat." He had decided to come back on a whim and hadn't had dinner yet.
"Alright." Little Fatty slid off to the kitchen.
Feeling a bit weary, Sheng Jing collapsed onto the sofa, waiting for the household robot to bring him some nutrient solution. But after a while, instead of the nutrient solution, he received a request from the household robot.
"Sir, please move to the dining table to enjoy your dinner."
Going to the dining table just for a nutrient solution? Was there a glitch in the program?
Just as Sheng Jing was contemplating whether to give Little Fatty a "check-up," he saw a plate of fragrant fried rice on the dining table.
"Just give me the nutrient solution," Sheng Jing said, fearing the rice was made by Tong Yu and not really wanting to eat it.
When they first got married, Tong Yu had started learning to cook natural food, claiming that delicious food could soothe the Mental Sea and that he was willing to do anything for Sheng Jing. But in reality, he only did it to have something to talk about when making demands.
"I learned to cook, something I don't even like, for you."
"Whenever you said you were coming home, I would buy groceries in advance and cook a big meal for you, while I usually just drank nutrient solutions."
"Sheng Jing, you eat the food I make, drink the water I pour, and still give me attitude."
"I've done so much, can't you see it?"
Because of these comments, Sheng Jing developed an aversion to natural food. At the research institute, he would drink nutrient solutions whenever possible, avoiding the cafeteria.
"Sorry, sir, but we're out of nutrient solutions at home. Even if I order now, it won't arrive until after eight tomorrow morning," Little Fatty replied.
"Forget it, put it away." Even if he had to go hungry, Sheng Jing would never give Tong Yu the chance to say those things again.
Unable to have dinner, Sheng Jing quickly went upstairs, planning to go to bed early. When he reached the second floor, he noticed light coming from the study, indicating that Tong Yu was still in the virtual world. Sheng Jing guessed that Tong Yu hadn't expected him to come home early, so he hadn't logged off to wait for him.
That was fine. He didn't know, and Sheng Jing could enjoy a quiet night.
Sheng Jing turned and went to the guest room.
There were some subtle changes in the guest room's arrangement, like a few new items, but after the major changes downstairs, he wasn't surprised. Since he had already washed up at the research institute's dormitory before coming back, Sheng Jing didn't bother to do it again and went straight to sleep.
An hour later, Tong Yu finally finished reviewing all the original owner's medical records, sweating as he removed the helmet.
It was terrifying.
Tong Yu was generally an optimistic person, but even he, as an observer, found the fifty-plus videos chilling and depressing.
Feeling down, Tong Yu desperately needed a good night's sleep to recover. After leaving the study, he took a shower and then, wearing only shorts, headed to the guest room. Before the time travel, Tong Yu lived alone, and even after, he was still living alone. Being used to freedom, he naturally didn't have the habit of wearing pajamas. Already feeling a bit sleepy, he didn't bother turning on the light, relying on his instincts to find the bed, letting himself fall onto it, and then naturally grabbing the corner of the blanket, rolling towards the middle of the bed…
Hmm?? Why couldn't he roll over?
It felt like something was blocking him?
With his eyes closed, Tong Yu reached out to feel…
Sheng Jing had already woken up when Tong Yu fell onto the bed, but Tong Yu's actions were so fast that before Sheng Jing could react, Tong Yu's hand was already feeling around his chest. After a moment of exploration, it started moving upward, and Sheng Jing, unable to bear it any longer, grabbed Tong Yu's hand.
What the heck! It's a person! A burglar?!
As a young man who loved sports and was physically fit, was he afraid of a burglar breaking into his house? Of course not. He was determined to catch the intruder on the spot, give them a good beating, and then hand them over to the police.
Tong Yu flipped over and lunged at the person, but the person reacted even faster, pulling and twisting his arm, causing him pain, and flipping him over, pinning him down instead.
"I'll tell you… Sheng Jing?!" Tong Yu was about to shout some harsh words when the room's light suddenly turned on, revealing a stunningly handsome man in pajamas, with disheveled hair and a hint of anger on his face, pressing down on him.
Tong Yu was stunned for a full second before realizing this was his husband.
To be honest, if Sheng Jing didn't have such an unforgettable face, Tong Yu might not have recognized this husband he'd only seen once and never spoken to.
"Why are you in my bed?"
Sheng Jing's eyes flashed with a hint of mockery. "This is my room."
What?
Tong Yu was confused. Although the house was a two-story building, it only had three rooms: the master bedroom, the guest bedroom, and the study.
The virtual helmet and other electronic devices were in the study, so Tong Yu habitually stayed there during the day. The remaining rooms were the master and guest bedrooms. He thought the house belonged to Sheng Jing, and even though he was in the original owner's body, he was still an outsider, so he chose the guest bedroom. Moreover, when he moved in, he noticed the guest bedroom was extremely clean, with nothing in it, indicating it wasn't often used.
How could this be Sheng Jing's room?
No, this was Sheng Jing's room because the original owner occupied the master bedroom, leaving Sheng Jing to sleep in the guest bedroom. After learning this from the videos in the afternoon, Tong Yu had decided to move back to the master bedroom, but he had instinctively walked into the guest bedroom earlier.
Wait, why was Sheng Jing home?
"Didn't you say you'd be back tomorrow?" Tong Yu asked.
Sheng Jing replied, "Are you trying to tell me that you thought I wasn't home, so you came to sleep in my room?"
Yes, that's the truth. But given the current situation and the impression the original owner left on Sheng Jing, he probably wouldn't believe it.
"Um… could you let me go first?" Tong Yu poked Sheng Jing's arm.
Sheng Jing snapped back to reality, realizing he was in a rather compromising position, pinning Tong Yu to the bed. He jumped up like a grasshopper, and even took three steps back.
Hey, that's a bit hurtful.
Even though Tong Yu knew Sheng Jing wasn't targeting him, he still felt hurt.
Tong Yu sat up and was about to speak when Sheng Jing abruptly turned and left the room. "Put some clothes on!"
Tong Yu looked down and realized he was only wearing a pair of briefs.
Oh my gosh, he really wasn't trying to climb into bed. But how could he explain that? Should he say that if he were trying to climb into bed, he wouldn't be wearing briefs?
For a moment, Tong Yu wished he could just knock himself out.
Fortunately, dwelling on things wasn't in Tong Yu's nature. He quickly adjusted his mood and changed into a proper outfit, one that looked as if he were about to head out to work.
Now, surely no one would suspect he was trying to climb into bed.
Tong Yu left the room and found Sheng Jing downstairs drinking water. After some thought, he decided to go down.
As he was pondering what to say, Little Fatty slid over. "Master, would you like a midnight snack?"
A midnight snack? Right, they could have a midnight snack together.
"Sure, sure, um… Brother Jing…" Tong Yu felt awkward saying it, but the original owner called him that, so he had to go with it. "Do you want something to eat?"
"No!" Sheng Jing coldly refused.
Tong Yu was left awkwardly standing there.
"Master, Sheng Jing wants to drink nutrient solution. I've already ordered it, and it will be delivered by eight tomorrow morning," Little Fatty said considerately.
"Oh, then bring me something to eat."
"How about fried rice?"
"Sure."
Sheng Jing watched as Tong Yu acted as if nothing had happened, feeling disgusted but not wanting to bring it up. After all, it wasn't a dignified situation for him either. He looked at Tong Yu and asked, "Did you instruct the household robot to stop ordering nutrient solutions?"
He had set the household robot to order nutrient solutions weekly, so they should never run out. If they did, someone must have given the robot new instructions.
"Yes, that stuff tastes awful and has a short shelf life, so I told Little Fatty not to buy it," Tong Yu admitted sheepishly. "Sorry, I didn't know you liked it. Next time you come back, I'll make sure to have it ready. Why don't you try the fried rice? It tastes better than nutrient solution."
As expected, he was still trying to get him to eat what he made.
"I told you, I…"
"Master, please enjoy your meal." Little Fatty placed a familiar plate of fried rice in front of Tong Yu.
From a distance, Sheng Jing hadn't paid much attention, but now that he was closer, he realized how fragrant the fried rice smelled.
"Thank you."
"Master, you're too kind. This is what Little Fatty is here for."
Tong Yu smiled and picked up a spoon, happily digging into the meal.
The fried rice smelled delicious, and with Tong Yu eating so enthusiastically, anyone would want to eat something, especially since Sheng Jing was already hungry.
"Gurgle~"
Tong Yu looked up in surprise and then sincerely offered, "Want some?"
"No!" Sheng Jing, feeling embarrassed, coldly refused.
Wait, wasn't he supposed to warn him? How did it turn into watching him eat?
