Boyfriend Always Thinks I'm a Little Pitiful Chapter 3
One sentence left Xie Ci and the group of guys around him in silence.
The few thugs were a bit surprised as they glanced at Gu Yufeng, not expecting this kid to be so alert. Should they say he's smart or not smart?
Xie Ci never knew Gu Yufeng had such a knack for getting on people's nerves.
No matter how you look at it, he seemed more proper than this group of thugs with dyed hair, smoking, and yellow teeth, at least he was wearing the First High School uniform.
Trusting these thugs so much, yet questioning him instead.
Xie Ci: "Are your eyes just for show?"
Gu Yufeng: "Are you insulting me?"
Xie Ci, who usually spoke to Gu Yufeng without any reservations, was already used to it. Seeing the boy's guarded look, he earnestly added, "No, I'm praising you."
Gu Yufeng: "That sentence is also an insult."
Xie Ci: "..."
Just returned to the country, and already scoring full marks in reading comprehension.
From the moment Gu Yufeng took out the money, he became the center of attention on this street.
Many students around craned their necks to look in that direction, silently watching the drama unfold.
Upon hearing this, some students couldn't help but laugh.
Ever since Xie Ci started high school, he had been a hot topic. Most students from nearby schools knew him, after all, he was the "big shot" often used by teachers as a negative example in class.
There were many who liked Xie Ci and many who disliked him.
Those who disliked him were mostly well-behaved students who would be scared to take a detour whenever they encountered Xie Ci on the road.
Xie Ci was tall and strong, like a wall when he passed by, always with a cold face, and his build was more robust than the average high school boy. He was fierce in fights, you could say he had a full debuff.
Under such pressure, ordinary students wouldn't even dare to talk to him, let alone get close.
"This guy isn't wrong, Xie Ci is indeed not someone to mess with. Those five thugs, hunched over like skinny dogs, might not even be able to take him on together."
"He has a fresh wound on his face, probably got extorted by those delinquents from the sports school again. No wonder we heard the sirens earlier."
"This is like the umpteenth time. His cousin is a complete idiot, borrowing high-interest loans for internet cafes and can't pay them back, always making Xie Ci clean up the mess."
"Well, Xie Ci is staying at his cousin's place, so he just has to suck it up."
The little thugs were unhappy seeing their easy prey about to be taken away, and they blocked Gu Yufeng, trying to push Xie Ci back.
"He doesn't want you to lead him, so why don't you just scram?"
Xie Ci ignored him and said to Gu Yufeng, "Come over."
After a moment of standoff, Gu Yufeng checked his watch, "I'm in a hurry, are you sure you can get me to the bus stop?"
Xie Ci: "If you had followed me earlier, you'd be there by now."
Gu Yufeng finally relented, handing the wad of hundred-yuan bills to the thugs before leaving, "This is compensation for taking up your time earlier."
The thugs were overjoyed, not expecting a windfall, and reached out to take it, only for Xie Ci to intercept it halfway.
Xie Ci tossed the money back to Gu Yufeng, giving the thugs a warning look.
"Been in this line for so long, and you still can't tell what you should and shouldn't take?"
Who in this street didn't know Xie Ci? Four out of the five guys had crossed paths with him before, all ending in miserable defeat.
Seeing Xie Ci's firm stance, they shrank back, not daring to make a sound.
Once Gu Yufeng obediently followed, Xie Ci didn't say another word, silently leading the way to the 625 bus stop.
"Those people are really afraid of you. Are you the gang leader of this street?" Gu Yufeng asked curiously as he walked beside Xie Ci.
Xie Ci wanted to ask, which part of him looked like a thug?
The words reached his lips but he swallowed them back. As an adult, there was no need to argue with a kid.
"What's your name?" Gu Yufeng pressed on.
Xie Ci: "Just leading the way, no need to know my name."
After saying that, Gu Yufeng seemed to sense the awkward atmosphere and stopped talking.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Yufeng looked at Xie Ci in confusion, "Aren't we there yet?"
Xie Ci snapped out of his troubled thoughts, looked around, and silently turned back, "We overshot."
Gu Yufeng: "..."
From an angle Xie Ci couldn't see, Gu Yufeng looked deeply at his back, slowly following.
When they reached the 625 bus stop, Xie Ci spotted a Palamela parked by the roadside from afar. Next to the car stood a middle-aged man in a black suit, sweating profusely in the twenty-something degree weather, holding a phone and looking around anxiously.
Xie Ci recognized him as Gu Yufeng's father's driver, surnamed Zhou.
The man saw them and immediately came over.
"Young Master, you're finally here. If you hadn't come, I was about to call the police!" Old Zhou panted, his tone a mix of worry and respect.
After speaking, he noticed Xie Ci beside Gu Yufeng, his expression turning cautious, "And who might this be?"
Xie Ci didn't speak, but Gu Yufeng explained, "I got lost, he brought me here."
Old Zhou quickly bowed to Xie Ci in gratitude.
With his task done, Xie Ci turned to leave, but Gu Yufeng called out to him.
Gu Yufeng: "I haven't given you your reward yet."
Are you some kind of money-spreading fairy? Xie Ci thought to himself, but outwardly he replied calmly, "No need."
Gu Yufeng: "Your mouth is injured, let me take you to the hospital?"
Xie Ci: "No need."
Gu Yufeng reached out to block his path, his tone not heavy but his attitude firm, "I don't like owing people."
"He's already thanked me, we're even." Xie Ci sidestepped Gu Yufeng's hand and walked away without looking back.
Watching Xie Ci walk away, Gu Yufeng's expression darkened slightly.
Old Zhou subtly sensed the change in Gu Yufeng's mood, worried but unable to ask, he opened the back door and softly reminded, "Young Master, it's time to go home."
Gu Yufeng climbed into the back seat, casually tossing his backpack aside, watching the increasingly distant figure through the rearview mirror.
From start to finish, that person had no intention of looking back.
"Are you in a bad mood? Did someone bully you?" The blond man in the passenger seat turned and asked Gu Yufeng in English.
The man looked to be in his thirties, he was Gu Yufeng's mother's life assistant, accompanying Gu Yufeng back from Country D to help with his daily affairs.
"Walking with a sour face the whole way, who would be happy?" Gu Yufeng leaned back, raising his arm to cover most of his face, his tone much colder than when he faced Xie Ci earlier.
Xie Ci clearly didn't want to deal with him, almost as if he had "I don't want to see you again" written on his forehead.
The man noticed Gu Yufeng's low spirits and pondered, "Did you specifically detour from the airport just to see him?"
Gu Yufeng brushed his bangs back, looking at the passenger seat, "Didn't my mom teach you not to ask about things you shouldn't?"
The moment their eyes met, the man almost felt pierced by the sharpness in Gu Yufeng's gaze, momentarily flustered.
This kind of oppressive aura from someone in a high position, he had only felt from the master before.
It seemed like the Young Master had changed a bit in the past couple of days.
On the sidewalk, Xie Ci walked a bit further before suddenly stopping.
Turning back, the car had already disappeared into the traffic.
He and Gu Yufeng were worlds apart, living in completely different worlds. The simplest way to avoid repeating past mistakes was to treat him like any other passerby. As long as he was willing to let go, even someone who was once incredibly important could become a stranger, never to cross paths again.
At this moment, Xie Ci finally felt the reality of being reborn.
Rebirth meant he could change many things.
To him, Gu Yufeng was an important partner, a strong competitor, a friend he could speak honestly with.
Even if his moral bottom line was low, he couldn't harm the other twice.
That night, the shattered Gu Yufeng, he didn't want to see a second time.
"Old Xie!"
A shout came from behind, and Xie Ci turned to see a boy in a First High School uniform riding a bicycle towards him.
The boy wore a pair of high-prescription frameless glasses, his bangs split by the wind, but the disastrous hairstyle couldn't hide his handsome and proper face.
This was Fang Size, the class monitor of Class One. Xie Ci was quite familiar with him.
In his past life, Fang Size was elected as the mayor of Blue Sea City, and they had collaborated quite a bit, making him one of the classmates Xie Ci kept in touch with the most.
"Old Xie!"
Fang Size rode up to Xie Ci, roughly using his foot as a brake, speaking quickly, "I heard you missed the exam, I guessed it must be related to those guys from the sports school again. Are you okay?!"
Xie Ci: "I'm fine."
Fang Size turned around, walking back with Xie Ci, "Old Xiang is really mad, he's calling around looking for you, you better think of a way to deal with it."
Class One's homeroom teacher, Xiang Haibin, was a strict and old-fashioned man, someone who used to give Xie Ci a lot of headaches.
The old man had a certain bias against him, maybe simply because his grades were poor, and he usually didn't look at him favorably.
"At most, he'll call me to the office for a chat, what else can he do?" Xie Ci didn't take it seriously.
Fang Size: "You sure are carefree, he can talk for one or two hours, who can stand that?"
Xie Ci: "I'm free anyway."
Fang Size couldn't help but glance at Xie Ci, taking a closer look.
"You didn't use to say that."
Before, it would delay his part-time work after school, but now it's different.
He might not have money, but he had plenty of time.
Suddenly thinking of something, Xie Ci asked Fang Size, "Were you the one who called the police earlier?"
Fang Size looked puzzled, "No, I just finished my physics exam and came looking for you when I heard the news."
Xie Ci was a bit confused.
Could it be some chain reaction triggered by his rebirth?
Someone saw the situation in the alley and called the police in advance?
In the luxury car, Gu Yufeng took out his supposedly dead and turned-off phone from his backpack, and when he turned it on, it showed 89% battery, with dozens of missed call notifications below.
As soon as he unlocked the screen, another call came in.
Gu Yufeng casually answered, and a woman's angry voice came through the screen.
"Suddenly returning to the country without a word! Not answering calls! Gu Yufeng, are you rebelling?!"
"Mom, watch your language."
Gu Yufeng held the phone a bit further away, "Didn't I have Luo Bo inform you?"
A dissatisfied voice came from the passenger seat, "My name is Robertson, not Luo Bo."
On the screen, "Playing first and reporting later, huh? Do you know how many schedules you've disrupted by leaving like this? I expect you back by tomorrow afternoon!"
Gu Yufeng looked at the rapidly passing scenery outside the car window, his tone relaxed and casual, "I'm not going back for now, I plan to focus on studying, don't arrange any schedules for me."
The call went silent for three seconds, then a furious voice came through, along with a string of unique swear words.
Gu Yufeng directly hung up, switched to the call log, and added his mom to the blacklist.
The second record on the page was the police call.
"Old Zhou, where's my dad now?" Gu Yufeng tossed the phone aside.
Old Zhou respectfully replied, "The master is in a meeting at the company. If it weren't for an important meeting today, he would have personally gone to the airport to pick you up."
Gu Yufeng, lost in thought, habitually turned the ring on his ring finger, only to find it missing. He then propped his chin, looking a bit impatient, "Not going home, head to the company first."
Saying this, Gu Yufeng told Robertson in the passenger seat, "I want to transfer to City First High School, find someone to handle it, and also, help me investigate someone."
Robertson asked excitedly, "That cool guy from earlier?"
Gu Yufeng's tone turned cold, "Chen Zhanpeng, a high school student."
