DT |Chapter 26: Floating Duckweed Five
The tide of venomous snakes slowly receded. Wu Wenyan, who had escorted the students to a safe area, saw from afar that someone was standing in front of Sheng Feng, forming seals with his hands and slowly approaching him.
Wu Wenyan shouted, “Boss! Come back! Who is that?”
Sheng Feng couldn’t answer Wu Wenyan because the person in front of him wore a sinister smiling mask, dressed in dark ancient attire, with a silver ring of exotic style on his left ear and a brocade pouch at his waist.
The man had his hands behind his back, laughing eerily, “Captain Sheng, is that little friend you brought along? When adults are talking, children should stay out of it!”
Sheng Feng felt a gust of wind, and the snake swarm crazily rushed towards Wu Wenyan, almost suicidally leaping at the array, causing Wu Wenyan to sweat profusely and retreat repeatedly. This left him only able to see Sheng Feng’s silhouette immersed in the thick white fog.
Sheng Feng knew this person was highly skilled. He wanted to step back but found thousands of venomous snakes gathered behind him. They didn’t attack but raised their heads, coiling in place. If Sheng Feng made any move to retreat, they would swarm him.
This person was targeting him.
Sheng Feng took a deep breath, “I don’t know who you are, or why you’ve gone to such lengths to trap me here.”
The man’s smile grew more grotesque. He slowly stepped out from the fog, placing his hands on his chest in a mockingly devout manner, “I am Jing Huan of the Ten Directions Eye. I’ve long heard of Captain Sheng’s reputation. Seeing you today, you truly are extraordinary.”
Wu Wenyan circled anxiously around the crack, like an ant on a hot pan. Seeing Xie Bi’an return, he hurriedly approached, pointing to where Sheng Feng was, “Over there… over there, it’s all snakes. The snake swarm has separated the boss from us!”
Xie Bi’an saw the situation and swung his mourning staff, instantly splitting the gathered swarm of venomous snakes. But soon, more snakes quickly surged up, blocking the path to Sheng Feng again.
The students had all been safely sent through the crack. Fan Wujiu and Xie Bi’an worked together to try to open a path. Just then, the ground suddenly shook violently, and the crack showed signs of closing.
Xie Bi’an exclaimed, “This is bad!”
Jing Huan remained unfazed by the violent shaking of the ground. He drew an iron fan from his back, letting it fall into his hand, “Captain Sheng, there are too many people here. You should let those irrelevant ones leave. After all, if they don’t go now, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
Sheng Feng understood Jing Huan’s intention. This person was determined to keep him here today. The Corpse-Wrapping Array was set by Jing Huan, and given his ruthlessness, if Sheng Feng didn’t comply, they might all perish.
Sheng Feng shouted to those behind him, “Seventh Lord, Eighth Lord, please take my people back first. This gentleman seems to have something to say to me alone!”
The paper bride was about to act, controlling dozens of paper figures to kill a large number of snakes, ready to rush towards Sheng Feng, but Fan Wujiu held her back.
Wu Wenyan protested, “Boss, what are you saying? How can we…”
Xie Bi’an considered the current situation, grabbed Wu Wenyan by the collar, and gritted his teeth, “Captain Sheng, be careful. We will come back to rescue you!”
Then he took Wu Wenyan through the closing crack, and Fan Wujiu ignored the paper bride’s protests, pushing her into the crack.
The paper bride shouted, “Boss, we will definitely come back to save you!”
The crack completely closed, and the collapsing school building instantly returned to calm. The swirling fog suddenly settled, returning to the previous dead silence.
Jing Huan laughed, “Finally quiet. I didn’t expect these little friends to be so loyal to you.”
Sheng Feng held a yellow talisman between his fingers, “The Heavenly Pivot Ghost Scroll from the Underworld was stolen by you. You meticulously planned this explosion, drawing over two thousand unrelated people into the trap, just to demonstrate the Ten Directions Eye’s power to the Underworld and National Security?”
Jing Huan paced a few steps, “Yes, and no.”
Sheng Feng disliked people who spoke in such a roundabout way. Jing Huan approached him with a smile, “I did this to demonstrate the Ten Directions Eye’s power to the world. At the same time, there’s another reason.”
“The Ten Directions Eye could rise again, thanks to the full support of my master. Captain Sheng, I sincerely advise you to stay away from National Security and the Underworld. They are about to face great disaster. If you are willing, my master said the doors of the Ten Directions Eye will always be open for you.”
Sheng Feng replied, “So, in the end, you’re just trying to sow discord. I’m just an ordinary person, afraid I can’t bear your master’s good intentions.”
Jing Huan snorted coldly, opening the iron fan in his hand with a snap, “If you refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit, then don’t think about leaving my Corpse-Wrapping Array today!”
With that, he hurled the sharp iron fan at Sheng Feng. Sheng Feng spun to the side, narrowly avoiding it. The snakes at his feet began to stir, gathering strength to leap up. Sheng Feng threw several yellow talismans, turning the snake swarm into a sea of fire.
However, he didn’t notice Jing Huan had already flashed to within a meter behind him, the iron fan still in hand, the blade about to stab him.
In an instant, a sudden change occurred. The brocade pouch at Jing Huan’s waist suddenly exploded, the light illuminating the surroundings. The powerful shockwave sent Jing Huan flying five or six meters away, and a shadow fell out of the pouch, crashing heavily into the snake swarm.
Sheng Feng wanted to see what had fallen out of the pouch, but it had been thrown over ten meters away, landing in the snake tide. Sheng Feng’s movement was limited, the red string on his wrist pulling him tightly, as if constantly reminding him:
You can’t go to the edge anymore, or you’ll lose your way back.
Jing Huan struggled to crawl out of the rubble, angrily shouting, “You actually tore my Soul-Extinguishing Pouch?!”
This sentence was definitely not directed at Sheng Feng, so Sheng Feng turned to look in the direction where the shadow had fallen. A dark figure slowly stood up from the ground, the surrounding fog dissipated significantly due to the earlier fight.
The shadow spat blood on the ground, weakly saying, “Don’t think I’m as easy to fool as Gou Louyang. Want to kill me? You’ll have to wait another thousand years.”
The voice was faint, but after so many days of being together, Sheng Feng immediately recognized the owner of the voice.
How could it be Shen Yan?!
Sheng Feng was still in shock, unable to extricate himself. He saw Shen Yan’s shadow suddenly leap into the air. Jing Huan, though injured, was not willing to be outdone. Shadows flashed, and the two exchanged dozens of moves in an instant.
Sheng Feng couldn’t see their techniques, standing there helplessly. Suddenly, a voice came to his ear, “Captain Sheng, leave now! We’ll open the crack soon.”
Xie Bi’an’s voice! The red string on Sheng Feng’s wrist glowed faintly. People say the Seventh Lord of the Underworld handles matters flawlessly, and now it seems true.
Jing Huan was still entangled with Shen Yan. Although Shen Yan was injured, he was still a formidable opponent, seemingly having completely forgotten Sheng Feng’s existence.
Sheng Feng quietly began to retreat, half of his body slowly disappearing into the fog. The snake tide was not as fierce as before, and the retreat was extremely smooth. He could almost touch the opening crack.
Jing Huan shouted, “Lord Shen, you’re at the end of your strength. Stop holding on, let me send you on your way!”
Jing Huan struck with a palm, Shen Yan couldn’t block it in time, and was knocked to the ground by the palm wind. He propped himself up on one knee, swallowing the metallic taste in his mouth, seemingly unable to stand.
“I’ve risked my life, what are you waiting for? Hurry and leave!”
Shen Yan glanced sideways, a faint red light appearing in his hand, looking in Sheng Feng’s direction.
Jing Huan laughed, “Ghost King, you can’t even protect yourself, think about yourself first. Sheng Feng, I’m in a good mood today, I’ll let you go this time. Be smart and get lost!”
The place where Shen Yan fell was far from the crack. If Sheng Feng wanted to take him and escape, it was almost impossible. Xie Bi’an’s urging voice came again, and the crack was wide open.
Leaving now would end everything.
From afar came Jing Huan’s mocking voice, “A generation’s Xiyi Realm Ghost King, buried in my Corpse-Wrapping Array, with no remains left, how lamentable!”
In Sheng Feng’s mind, the image of the figure curled up in the hotel bed in Tan Village gradually emerged. The foot he was about to step into the crack suddenly stopped.
“Captain Sheng, after you finish eating, can you burn this marinated egg for me? Or burn something else, as long as it’s edible, anything will do.”
“Captain Sheng, I only promised the judge to come here and give you some advice, so saving you just now is an extra charge.”
“Which ghost… wouldn’t want to reincarnate?”
Jing Huan opened the iron fan with one hand, the sharp blade aiming for Shen Yan’s neck. Shen Yan, who had governed the Xiyi Realm for a thousand years, never thought he would fall to an unknown nobody today.
Dying again, what would it feel like…
A flash of cold light, followed by the crisp sound of weapons clashing. The death Shen Yan expected did not come. He opened his eyes to see the familiar figure standing in front of him, holding a long sword made of talisman paper.
Jing Huan never expected Sheng Feng to return to save someone. Instantly, the iron fan in his hand was lightly flicked upward by the long sword and thrown away.
“You dare come back?! Courting death!” Jing Huan shouted angrily.
Unexpectedly, Sheng Feng had no intention of entangling with him. He drew a teleportation talisman with his right hand and slammed it onto the ground. By the time Jing Huan chased after him, only a few drops of Shen Yan’s blood remained on the ground, and the person had already vanished.
Outside the crack, the main force of National Security Group 7 sat around the crack, staring intently. Xie Bi’an also sat quietly nearby, trying to communicate with Sheng Feng in the array through the red string, but the communication had been cut off.
Tian Nan Di Bei shouted, “Seventh Lord! Seventh Lord, something’s wrong! Come and see!”
Everyone on the rooftop was alarmed and rushed over to look. Tian Nan Di Bei pointed to the red string tied to his wrist, the longest strand had already retreated from the array.
Seeing this, Xie Bi’an’s usually calm face now showed anger, “Sheng Feng must be crazy!”
Tian Nan Di Bei asked, “What does this red string mean? Why did it retreat on its own?”
Fan Wujiu replied, “Captain Sheng must have untied the other end of the red string.”
Wu Wenyan exclaimed, “But he hasn’t come out of the array yet! Without the red string, how will he find his way?”
Fan Wujiu’s face was cold, “Lost in the Corpse-Wrapping Array, certain death.”
