DT |Chapter 31: Floating Ten
Du Guqian was taken aback by the words, becoming somewhat serious: “The last incident? Could it be that the last time you were captured in the Nugu Realm, it was also under Su Jingran’s orders? This person is meticulous and unfathomable. I was already wary of him when he came, and it seems I was right.”
Shen Yan rubbed the silver wine cup in his hand: “He manipulated the corpse to hide beside me and stole my waist knife. This person just took power and already caused such a mess. Does he really think my Xiyi Realm is so easily bullied?”
Du Guqian: “From what you’re saying, you infiltrated the Nugu Realm and encountered people from the Ten Directions Eye. You were captured because of their enchantment. This suggests that the Ten Directions Eye and the Nugu Realm are closely connected.”
Shen Yan poured a full cup of wine into his mouth, the burning sensation traveling from his throat to his stomach: “Indeed, but the Ten Directions Eye was almost wiped out by the Underworld. The remaining forces couldn’t stir up much trouble. If they are reviving now, it must be related to Su Jingran. He must have been planning this for a long time.”
Du Guqian leaned back on the soft couch: “Compared to the Underworld, I think Su Jingran’s target is you. Be honest, have you really never made enemies with him?”
Shen Yan glanced at her, his eyes clearly saying, do you think anyone would dare to make an enemy of me?
Du Guqian ignored his look: “You’ve been in charge of the Xiyi Realm for hundreds of years longer than I have been in power. Naturally, no one dares to make enemies with you… Hey, I thought of a possibility!”
Du Guqian sat up straight, her posture completely unladylike: “Su Jingran was the king of Mengliang Kingdom in his lifetime. Could it be that you offended him in your past life, so after he died, he turned into a vengeful ghost to seek revenge on you?”
Shen Yan thought this woman had been hanging around with those brainless male companions for too long, and her words were becoming more and more outrageous. He simply ignored her, picking up a dish and putting it in his mouth.
Du Guqian wanted to say more, but suddenly the door of the Crying Soul Hall was pushed open from the outside. A skeleton ghost in armor hurriedly ran into the hall, his voice sharp as he knelt: “Report! Your Highness the Ghost King, we intercepted a message just now!”
Du Guqian popped a grape into her mouth, signaling the skeleton to present the letter.
The skeleton ghost, trembling with fear, placed the message on Du Guqian’s desk. It was a rolled-up note, with the words “To Lord Shen” engraved on the bamboo tube.
Du Guqian glanced at it and casually tossed it to Shen Yan, who caught the small bamboo tube without even looking up.
The one who would send him a message using such a bamboo tube was undoubtedly Xie Bi’an.
Shen Yan opened the bamboo tube, revealing a crumpled note with just a few words written on it—”An old friend is in trouble, hope you return.”
Shen Yan stared at the note, lost in thought.
The word “trouble” was thought-provoking. It could mean anything from life-threatening to trivial matters. Shen Yan had checked Sheng Feng’s pulse, and everything was fine.
Xie Bi’an must be referring to a problem on Sheng Feng’s side, but could it be serious enough to require a Ghost King to return to the human world?
If it wasn’t life-threatening, clearly not.
Du Guqian had already noticed something from Shen Yan’s expression and teased: “What could make the famous Ghost King ponder so deeply?”
Shen Yan snapped back to reality at her words, pinching a handful of ghost fire in his hand. The note was instantly consumed by the blue-green ghost fire. He pretended nothing had happened: “Nothing major, where were we?”
…
Sheng Feng had just arrived home when Huang Rongxin asked him to look around the house, leaving him puzzled. The house was as empty as ever, nothing worth seeing.
However, he didn’t know that Xie Bi’an and the two from Tian Nan Di Bei had been sitting on the most conspicuous sofa watching him for a long time, further confirming Huang Rongxin’s thoughts.
Sheng Feng’s eyes, which could distinguish between yin and yang, could no longer see ghosts.
Huang Rongxin didn’t want to hide it from Sheng Feng. After all, even if he tried, it wouldn’t be long before the truth came out. He thought Sheng Feng would be unable to accept this reality, but Sheng Feng was surprisingly calm when he heard it.
Calm to the point of being abnormal.
Sheng Feng just sat on the sofa watching his shifu frantically talk to the air, suddenly finding it amusing. So this is how he appeared to normal people before.
Finally, when Huang Rongxin fell silent, Sheng Feng asked: “Will my eyes be able to see ghosts again in the future?”
Huang Rongxin took a deep breath: “Your eyes might have suffered aftereffects from being in the Corpse-Wrapping Array for too long. Previously, when they came to the hospital with supplements, they used their physical bodies, and we didn’t notice this situation in time. But don’t worry, the Seventh Lord will help us find a solution.”
Sheng Feng lowered his head, smiling: “Actually… if there’s no solution, that’s fine too.”
Since birth, he could see these things. Until today, he didn’t know what the world looked like to normal people. These eyes allowed him to communicate with ghosts and gods. Initially, he didn’t like it, but after futile resistance, he had to compromise.
Now, by a twist of fate, he really couldn’t see them anymore. Perhaps… it might be a good thing.
However, just as this thought arose, Sheng Feng couldn’t help but think of the person who had disappeared without a trace. He still didn’t know if the other had safely escaped the Corpse-Wrapping Array or where they were now.
Huang Rongxin was already preparing to send people out. Sheng Feng quickly stood up and said: “Shifu, I want to speak with the Seventh Lord alone.”
Outside, the ginkgo leaves were already showing signs of turning yellow. The gloomy sky made the mood heavy, and the birds clung to the branches, still chirping tirelessly.
Sheng Feng returned to his bedroom, preparing paper and pen. Huang Rongxin roughly pointed to a spot in the air, then left for the living room without asking further questions.
There were technically two people in the room, but Sheng Feng didn’t feel Xie Bi’an’s presence at all.
After thinking for a moment, Sheng Feng asked the air in front of him: “Does the Seventh Lord know where Shen Yan has gone?”
The pen on the bedside suddenly stood up, writing a few words on the blank paper: “The lord has returned to the ghost realm.”
Sheng Feng wanted to ask more, but the pen stood up again, adding a few words: “The body is unharmed.”
Now Sheng Feng didn’t know what to ask next. If he directly asked if Shen Yan had visited him in the hospital, it would seem too sentimental. Besides, they might never meet again, making it unnecessary.
Thinking this, Sheng Feng said: “Thank you, Seventh Lord, I have nothing more to ask.”
After sending off Xie Bi’an, Huang Rongxin poured Sheng Feng a glass of water: “I just called Old Tang and asked him to find someone to temporarily handle your National Security matters. You’ll come home with me later and rest well for a while.”
Sheng Feng almost spat out the water he hadn’t swallowed yet. He immediately protested: “Why? It’s just my eyes that have a problem, I’m not paralyzed. I think I can live here just fine.”
Huang Rongxin: “You can’t stay here! I’ve already called your shimu (master’s wife). Just consider it a visit to her. You’ve been so busy you haven’t seen her much, and she treats you like her own son.”
Huang Rongxin often used this tactic to suppress Sheng Feng’s rebellious nature. As expected, Sheng Feng stopped resisting and quietly finished his glass of water.
After a while, he muttered: “I can’t just sit around doing nothing every day.”
Huang Rongxin thought for a moment and snapped his fingers: “Isn’t Group 7 recruiting interns recently? Why don’t you go to the recruitment department for a few days?”
To be honest, the recruitment department was the last place Sheng Feng wanted to deal with.
They recruited all year round, but few interns were selected for Group 7. There were hardly any good candidates, which was why Sheng Feng’s team was always so busy.
Sheng Feng pouted: “I’m not going.”
Huang Rongxin stood up and gave him a flick on the forehead, making Sheng Feng clutch his head and yell. Huang Rongxin scolded: “You brat! You used to complain all the time about not having enough people, not enough interns. Now I tell you to go to the recruitment department to pick people yourself, and you complain? Have I been too nice to you lately, and now you’re getting cheeky again?!”
Sheng Feng bolted, a blur darting out the door, his voice echoing in the hallway: “Aren’t we going to see shimu? Shifu, I’ll go start the car!”
Huang Rongxin stood at the door with his hands on his hips, smiling: “He runs pretty fast.”
Huang Rongxin grabbed a bag to pack some clothes for Sheng Feng to take along. While opening the closet to get clothes, the cool jade pendant on the bedside caught his attention.
A top-quality protective jade, the best of the best.
Where did this kid get such a fine item?!
He first examined the jade pendant, then sat down, even considering taking out his reading glasses for a closer look. Unknowingly, he spent over ten minutes on it.
Sheng Feng had to run back upstairs to call him: “Shifu, we’ll miss dinner if you take any longer…”
As soon as he opened the door, Sheng Feng saw the jade pendant he had discarded in the corner being scrutinized by Huang Rongxin, who seemed quite fascinated by it.
Sheng Feng quickly ran up and snatched the jade pendant, an almost instinctive action, so he didn’t feel anything was wrong. But to Huang Rongxin, it seemed a bit odd.
Huang Rongxin squinted: “I’ve never heard of you having a habit of collecting jade pendants.”
Sheng Feng chuckled: “Just recently, a new hobby I picked up, didn’t tell you.”
Huang Rongxin sneered: “Really? This is a top-grade protective jade, worth a fortune even in the Underworld. A recent hobby? Just started collecting and found one of this quality? I didn’t know you were so lucky.”
Before Sheng Feng could speak, Huang Rongxin continued: “You said the Underworld sent you an external aid from the Xiyi Realm. I heard from Tian Nan Di Bei that you two got along well, but I didn’t see him at the scene last time. Where is he?”
Huang Rongxin’s insight was top-notch, and his ability to connect the dots was strong. Sheng Feng had to lower his head and quietly say: “He… he went back home.”
